Reluctantly selling my 1959 Simca Aronde Deluxe Six (Chassis Type AJ)….
Quite a rare car and interesting car, not sold in the U.K….It was originally sold in France, alongside the (Then) new P60 Aronde in 1959/60 as a “Base” model, using the 1090cc engine from the Simca 8, and the earlier 90a Aronde body….A lower level of trim, and a smaller engine, meant that the car sold at the lower end of the market, and fell into a lower taxation class, than the P60 Aronde, competing with slightly smaller cars, such as the Renault Dauphine.
This car is basically solid/running, but needs quite a bit of recommissioning/restoration.
Have had the engine running, but it needs fettling to get it running smoothly….The car will also need a complete new exhaust and the handbrake cable is absent.
The body is basically sound, having received some welding in the past….The sills have been done, but aren’t especially pretty….They are sound, and can be tidied up, but a perfectionist would probably want to do them again. Otherwise, the only rust hole is a small one on the rear valance.
The paint is mainly original and wearing very thin in places, so would benefit from a respray, and the interior needs re-trimming, and preferably, the horrible blue Audi seats replacing with an original bench.
Exterior trim/seals are mostly present, but the vast majority would need repainting/re-chroming/replacing.
This is probably the only example of this actual model in the U.K….It has an interesting history, including appearing as a background vehicle in the Stanley Kubrick Vietnam War film, “Full Metal Jacket” and a spell as part of late Industrialist Peter Black’s Yorkshire Car Collection, in Keighley. It has also appeared in a couple of Classic Car magazines, over the years.
It’s a much-loved car, that I have actually owned twice, over the past thirty years or so….I bought it in the mid-nineties to use as an interesting daily, which was fun in the Summer, but not so much in Winter, so I semi-retired it in favour of a Citroen CX, and used it only during the Spring/Summer, until being forced to trade it, when my then partner needed a car.
The car’s condition deteriorated over the subsequent years, until a friend of mine found it, and began bringing it back to life. I then re-purchased it from him, a few years ago, with the aim of getting it back on the road and driving it again, but a house-build and a heart-attack have meant that I have barely touched the car, so I have decide to let it go again (Hopefully to a loving home who’ll keep in touch!) as I have little time, and too many projects, and have decided to focus on my first love, the A-Series Citroen….In my case, an Acadiane.
The car can be viewed in North Walsham, North Norfolk….Would prefer e-mail/text enquires if possible, as I don’t answer my personal phone whilst at work, but will accept phone calls in the evenings (After 7pm) or at weekends.
